Injalbert and the "Villa Antonine"

Visit of the Villa Antonine, at Béziers (Hérault / France), haven of peace, where there was the summer workroom of the famous sculptor Jean-Antoine Injalbert (1845 - 1933, "Grand Prix de Rome" 1874)

Memories

I was two years old when, answering to the invitation of Mme Paule Paget, sole legatee of Injalbert, I discovered the sculptor's garden, at Béziers - his house was next my parents's. I remember that I was wondered when I saw the columns, headed by faces of satyres. These sculptures, in this wonderful park, gave off extraordinary force and sweetness at the same time...

My parents moved away and lived then ... Boulevard Injalbert.
One must think that sculpture was inscribed in my destiny, for my grandparents living in Calais, we had to visit the "Six Bourgeois", a famous Rodin's sculpture which occupies a place of honour behind the Town Hall. Other coincidence, our summer house is "square Magrou", another sculptor!

I invite you :
- to a walking in this beautiful little garden (open to the public) where you can find peace and serenity among some of the Injalbert's works

Beginning : click on the photo

(Entrance situated "place Injalbert", at the top of the "boulevard Injalbert")

- to admire closer some of the works of this great sculptor, which are in the garden:
(Note : most of the Injalbert's works are in theMusée fayet, "place de la Révolution", in the historical center of Béziers)
